What is an information security incident?

An information security incident is any event that exposes (or potentially exposes) information or resources to unauthorized access, disruption or modification.

Examples include loss or theft of computers or storage devices, attacks against university systems, loss of confidential information (including paper records) and inappropriate or unauthorized access of confidential information.


Report an incident

Information security incidents must be reported immediately to the VCU Information Security department via the VCU Help Desk.
